Siberian fir needle. Botanical grade.

Where Our Fir Comes From

We source our fir needle oil straight from the distillery, working directly with our partner distillers in Siberia. Here is how it is made and what botanical grade means for your candles, soap and diffuser blends.

Straight From Our Distilling Partners

Our fir needle oil starts in the Siberian forest, with distillers we work with directly.

Our distilling partners in Siberia cut the fir needles and steam-distil them close to the forest, so the oil reaches us straight from the distillery rather than through a chain of traders. The result is a brown liquid with a woody, fresh, piney scent.

We bottle it under our own name in sizes from half an ounce to bulk, and orders ship within one to two business days. Larger bulk sizes may need a little extra handling.

Botanical Grade, Plainly

Our fir oil is botanical grade: a consistent, budget-friendly fir aroma for candles, soap and diffusers.

Botanical grade oils are made for fragrance. In the trade the term describes a blend of natural oils and aromatic compounds that gives a true-to-nature scent at a sensible price, and that is exactly the job this oil does in candles, wax melts, soap, room sprays and winter blends.

It is not sold as a pure essential oil, and we do not name a botanical species on the label. If your formula needs a pure, single-species fir oil, please contact us before ordering and we will tell you honestly whether this oil fits.

Woody, fresh and piney, and a brown liquid in the bottle.

Needles, Steam-Distilled At Source

Our partners distil the leaf of the fir, which for a conifer means the needles. Steam is passed through the fresh needles, carrying the aromatic oil with it, and the oil separates from the water as it cools.

The sweet conifer character comes mostly from bornyl acetate, with camphene and alpha-pinene adding the brighter green top notes.

Practical Limits

No medical claims here. This is a fragrance oil with a clean conifer scent, and we describe it as exactly that.

For skin use, dilute it in a carrier oil and patch test a small area first. Keep it away from eyes, children and pets.

Keep the bottle closed, cool and out of the light. Conifer oils keep for roughly one to two years stored that way.
